The Obed Itani Chilume Stadium has been approved to host the Zebras Vs Equatorial Guinea on the 28th March 2023.When briefing the media on Tuesday 21st of March 2023 at the National stadium, Chief Executive Officer Tuelo Serufo said It should be noted that the previous results of the inspection indicated that none of the stadiums in Botswana met the set minimum CAF stadium requirements to host CAF senior international A matches such as the Africa Cup of nations qualifiers and/or CAF Interclubs matches (CAT3 and CAT4).
He noted that CAF advised the BNSC to immediately consider initiating the renovation work at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium to ensure that the stadium is approved in time for the next AFCON qualifier window.
“We came with renovation program and purchase of required equipment for the stadium, so that CAF can in due course permanently approve the venue”, said Serufo.He said most import thing was the spongy pitch and the lights lux, the BNSC manage to cut the grass to required grass level of between 20mm to 30 mm and still keep the greenish colour of the pitch,also managed to increase the lights illumination(Lux) to 1500 Lux.
“Please note that the minimum requirement by CAF is 1200Lux. 3.6 We have since purchased new goal post as spares which were are expecting on Friday and new benches which meets CAF standards (we are expecting them by end of April), renovated the doping room and meeting room”, Said Tuelo Serufo.
He sadi the have also bought massage beds and some medicals requirements as per the CAF requirements.
